A humble beginning
Leon van der Nest acquired his woodwork skills from his father, who owned a furniture factory in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga. He followed in his father's footsteps and became a woodwork teacher while studying part-time for his BCom Hons degree. In his spare time, Leon did woodwork from home.

Going from strength to strength
The demand for Leon's work increased and soon he had to build his own workshop. Next, he appointed two apprentices to help him. In 1978, he decided to pursue his woodwork career on a full-time basis. In October 1985 he founded Nesthout Furniture Factory as a close corporation. In 2005, he converted it into a company and called it Van der Nest Furniture Pty (Ltd).

Quality timber
We use local and imported hardwood such as saligna, mahogany, Cape teak and blackwood. Harvesting timber from sustainable forests and the elimination of wastage form part of our accountability towards the environment.
